Shari Beaumont, Wayne Hentai Form Publicity Agency, Plan 9 Media Group

LOS ANGELES Ñ Two of the industry’s foremost names in promotions and public relations pooled their experience to launch a robust publicity agency for the needs of the adult entertainment industry.

Shari Beaumont, former All Media Play director of operations and head of SugarDVDÕs affiliate relations, joined with Wayne Hentai, proprietor of Hentai Public Relations, to form Plan 9 Media Group. Beaumont will head the organization’s promotions and media sponsorship efforts. Hentai will take charge of the public relations needs of the company’s clients.

“Wayne and I have worked together on projects in the past,” Beaumont, who worked in music industry publicity before entering the adult industry, said. “It just made sense to combine our knowledge of the industry to create a company that offers the best in media relations solutions.”

Beaumont’s reputation in publicizing her past clients, knowledge of product sponsorships and her role in organizing the media on the red carpets of the largest and most memorable adult parties dovetailed with HentaiÕs public relations business.

“While I’ve built the names of my clients through my solid relationship with the media, working together with Shari means we can offer our clients more than just public relations,” Hentai, a graduate of the Defense Information School and a freelance business writer before his stint as an editor at AVN, said. “With our combined efforts, Plan 9 Media Group offers promotional campaigns as well as media coordination during events to complement our publicity efforts.”

Plan 9 Media Group offers established adult businesses an opportunity to augment their existing promotions and public relations departments. Smaller companies, who do not have the resources to maintain an in-house publicity department, will be able to draw on the expertise of the company.

Hentai said the adult industry is evolving. Successful companies, like their mainstream counterparts, understand they are in the entertainment industry and need to put their efforts into public relations and publicity.

”Viper however realized the potential of a fan willing to ‘pay to play’ – and exacted $300 from Mr. Muckermann, so that he and his two friends would get to go to ‘Big Wednesday’ – the 1990 XRCO event that was held on the exceptionally cold Santa Monica Pier,” shuddered Margold. ”But I felt guilty that that was all I could give the fellow for his money, so I came up with the name FOXE – quickly adding the ‘E’ because I didn’t want to have any problems with 20th Century – and because Viper was a redhead,” Margold reflects wistfully.
