CYBERSPACE — Although there has been considerable time and energy spent on the issue of creating a “kid safe†Internet, little has been done to promote an “adult safe†Internet — until now, that is…Enter AdultSafe™, a U.S.-based independent organization devoted to establishing and promoting recommended guidelines or Best Practices for the online adult entertainment industry, with a focus on protecting the rights and interests of consumers of online adult entertainment.
Working in conjunction with private companies, industry groups and relevant agencies, such as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), AdultSafe™ will provide consumers, industry and government with a greater understanding of issues affecting consumer safety in today’s global, multi-billion dollar online adult entertainment marketplace.
In keeping with its mission of promoting an “adult safe†Internet, AdultSafe™ has issued its initial listing of Best Practices for online adult entertainment websites.
Voluntary adherence to these Best Practices is a means by which adult website operators may demonstrate a proactive approach towards “doing the right thing,†complying with existing laws and foregoing invasive or deceptive marketing practices and other instances of consumer abuse.
The result of AdultSafe™ Best Practices compliance is an adult website where consumers can rest assured that their privacy and personal data is protected; that they will never (even inadvertently) be exposed to child pornography; and that they will be served and marketed to in a fair and honest way — free of viruses, “spyware†or other issues that can lead to computer harm or identity theft.
