Since the beginning over two decades ago, Homegrown Video not only has striven to entertain people with fun and sexy amateur videos but also worked hard to make a world where sex is safe. As a means to that end, Homegrown Video supports organizations that educate and introduce consenting adults to a vibrant and sex positive culture so that they may safely experiment and embrace their own unique sexuality in a secure environment. Recently, Homegrown Video donated time and resources to a well known organization based in Seattle Washington called The Center For Sex Positive Culture, taking part in a naked sushi party along with our producer pals at The Thrillhammer to raise money and, well, you know what else, for the Center. Allena Gabosch proudly claims to be a former hippy with an odd sexuality, the byproduct of being raised as a cowgirl on an Idaho farm, which ironically blossomed into her becoming a polyamorous bdsm maven and self described “Mom of Kinkâ€. As the partner in a restaurant that would feature nights dubbed “Beyond the Edgeâ€, Allena and friends would convert the place into a performance theatre for bondage shows and social gatherings that attracted folks from every erotic den in the Seattle scene, swingers, fetishists, bondage enthusiasts, cross genders and cross dressers, and everyone else with a curiosity for exotic sex. When the restaurant finally closed, Allena and her partners which included notable fetish photographer Jim Duvall and Russel Brunel of Sexuality.org realized the need to continue the mission and decided to open a club that would cater to the growing throng which they named appropriately “The Wet Spotâ€.
Using donations of cash and labor from the community, in 1999 these budding sexual activists turned a broken down old warehouse space into a comfortable community center for sexuality. From a modest and humble starting roster of ten the organization now has over 10,000 active members and continues to grow, attracting people from far beyond Seattle’s city limits. With three to four events per week, the Wet Spot offers plenty of opportunities to learn and experience the diverse and the eclectic firsthand and in a non-threatening manner. As the new home for the Center for Sex Positive Culture, and a place where the Thrillhammer sex machine is frequently the center of attention, The Wet Spot provides a library which naturally includes titles from the vast Homegrown Video collection. Today, the Center is a 501.C(7) tax deductible organization and raises money through a variety of events the most notable of which is an erotic art auction that attracts respected artists from all ! over the world.
In a rare but well deserved place of respect, The Center for Sex Positive Culture and the Wet Spot peacefully coexist in the community without hassle from city officials and the powers that be. Like Homegrown Video, the Center and the Wet Spot strive to make adults feel positive about their sexuality no matter whether they like to be watched in amateur porn, tied up and spanked, or dressed to impress in the garments of the opposite sex, or any thing else that might seem unusual and threatening to those whose sexuality is unfortunately still being repressed.
